About It's Good To Be The Queen
It’s Good To Be The Queen is an international party of moms – who only have boys - who celebrate being the only source of estrogen in their castle and support each other as we face the challenges of raising responsible, respectful men.
Founding Queen Linda Marie Ford welcomed her boys-only friends to her castle for a brunch in the spring of 2002. All received tiaras upon arrival, drank champagne and had a high old time. Ford noticed that the moms were all engaged in conversations either asking each other for advice or sharing amusing boy stories. At every table the conversation swirled, “Does anyone have an emotional boy?”, “How do I know if he had ADHD?”, “Any tips on potty training?”, “What has your son set on fire?” Now realizing the need for moms of boys to bond and party Ford figured she was really on to something.
ItsGoodToBeTheQueen.com was launched in early 2003 and the party to mark the occasion was covered by The Dallas Morning News. The article was picked up by Knight Ridder and was reprinted across the country. That coverage led to a feature in the May 2004 edition of Ladies’ Home Journal as well as feature in October 2004 issue of Pregnancy magazine. There have been other interviews and subsequent articles, one of which was picked up by The New York Times News Service.
Queen Linda’s Weekly Address goes out via e-mail to over 3,500 moms. Included is a winning boy story from the hundreds sent to Ford. The site now boasts a message board, gift shop, listing of official chapters, photo gallery and support information.
Majestic Moms, Ford’s essay about the Queendom, is included in Chicken Soup for the Mother of Boys Soul. Ford continues work on her book Only Boys: When It’s Good To Be The Queen.
