Fellow Queens,
Ahh. Summer camp days.
I only went once. When I was eleven I spent a week at Camp Fire Girl camp. The only thing I remember now is bad food, salt tablets and what a fun game it was to snap the camp counselor’s bras.
My oldest son went a few summers ago – to the Pines- not Camp Fire Girl camp (then again considering the bra snapping, he might have enjoyed it)
All my friends said how great it would be when my son went to camp. Imagine, a full week wrangling two boys instead of three. But you know what? I missed the little booger tremendously. I faithfully wrote my allotted one email a day, checked the mailbox for the letter that never came and counted the days until he came back. A week later we picked him up. He was smiling, sunburned and I swear about 2 inches taller.
I now realize that summer camp is just one of the first small steps he’ll take away from me and towards becoming the man he is destined to be. I just hope that when he becomes that man he will changes his underwear more often than he did at camp.
This week Prince One, now 15, heads back to the Pines, this time with his 12 year old brother in tow. This week is MY summer vacation. I don’t have to drive anyone anywhere!
Oh, wait, I do have Prince 6 year old.
Dollar movie theater, here we come!
