I love April Fool’s day. It is a day I have permission to mess with my kid’s heads.
This year I decided to continue to bust Teen Tim’s chops regarding the car.
As you may remember, the first time he drove the car he was dropping my husband off at the airport. He didn’t get in the tolltag lane on the way out and got slapped with an $18 ‘lost ticket’ fine. So on Tuesday the letter with all the info on how to pay comes to the house complete with the airport logo as the return address. Perfect, it made my plan complete.
At dinner on Wednesday I’m holding the letter and I say, “Tim, didn’t you take care of this?”
“Uhhhh,” he said in teen language.
“I can not believe that you didn’t take care of this!”
Again, “Uhhhhhh.”
“Didn’t you know that the fine doubles every day? It’s up to over $300 now.’
Oh I wish you could have been there! The look of disbelief, anger and absolute confusion that came over his face was priceless.
I continued, “I can not believe you fell for my April Fool’s joke either!”
Thank goodness the boy has some restraint. Who knows what would have happened. Though after he calmed down he looks at me, smiles and says, “That was really a good one Mom.”
My kids are going to have so much fodder for therapy when they get older they will certainly get their money’s worth.
Reign On!
