Fellow Queens,
“Ms-Ford-this-is-Father-Peter-at-the-school-Don’t-worry-everything-is-fine.”
When the headmaster of an all boys school calls he says this the second you pick up the phone so you don’t freak out. So to you I say, everything is fine. But...
The phone rang at 1AM and immediately my mind raced to the unimaginable. It shifted into overdrive when I heard Prince Tim say, “Uh mom.” Just the tone of his voice -a bit of fear mixed with a smidge of apprehension was what really panicked me. He went on to say, “I have a flat tire.” Whew.
Now lest you think I allow my kid to go gallivanting around after midnight let me assure you that this was a special occasion. The two oldest princes, my hubby and I caught the U2 concert at the Dallas Cowboy’s Cathedral. Rock on! When it was over Prince Tim went off in his car, we went off in ours. He had to drop off a friend so I expected him home a bit after us.
I waited. And waited. And waited. Agonizing.
The tire expired in a not so great part of town. If you would like to visit strip clubs and pawn shops, go there. He did exactly what we have told him to do -keep driving until you get somewhere safe. Unfortunately refuge was about a half mile away. He can change a tire but one of the bolts split so he needed Hubby’s help. The spare went on, they got back at two and all is well.
The next morning I checked out the tire. You should have seen it. It looked like wild wolves had attacked it.
All in all the experience wasn’t a big deal. That kick in the gut when we think our child’s safety is threatened is just another affirmation of how fiercely we love them. And love them we do, even when they scare us half to death.
Reign On!
