Fellow Queens!

This past Wednesday Princes Two and Three bounded down the school steps after a hopefully productive day of learning singing “Five Day Weekend! Five Day Weekend!”

Huh?

Oh the harsh world of denial.

My head was spinning, my vision blurred as I took Prince Christopher’s hand and turned toward the car. Then his teacher pulled me aside. “Guess what Christopher said at dismissal? He said ‘Yay! Five days to drive my mom crazy and watch Spongebob!’” He can kill two birds with one stone by just talking to me about that obnoxious yellow parasite. At least the kid is honest.

I guess when the boys said that they had two days off I must have convinced myself that they meant Saturday and Sunday. I vaguely remember signing up for parent/teacher conferences, but surely those fabulous teachers can hold the attention of 23 kids while they tell me my kid is making progress because he didn’t try to set his desk on fire this quarter. I guess not.

Agitator that I am I signed up for a 2pm conference with the gym teacher. I figure if I have to go up there then he can too.

So fine. Thursday and Friday conferences, but what up with Monday? I’ll never know. Maybe the teachers simply need an extra day to recover from talking to all the parents. I think that dealing with a class of 7 year olds all day is a walk in the park compared to two days of 15 minute slots with every parent in the grade.

I just know that when I proudly look at them as they bound up the school steps I’ll be chanting to myself, “At least its not June. At least its not June.”

Our boy story is from Queen Linda (not me!)

My 9-year-old son asked if he would still see me every day when he went to college. I cautiously explained that he probably wouldn't want to be close enough to do that. He persisted,  "I could if I bought Mr. Harry's house (which is two doors down and currently for sale.) Then, if you were ever sick, I could come and take care of you every day."

I was stunned. This is the same child who pretends he doesn't know me in public....Hmmm, I wonder if Mr. Harry's house will still be for sale in 2018?

Reign On!
